2022 Programs

 

Our programs run June, July and August at Nadsilnich Lake (West Lake Provincial Park).

 

Our Program Fees include use of our boats, paddles, boat safety equipment, lifejackets, basic paddler insurance thru Canoe Kayak BC, and membership in our Club.

 

Here are suggestions for the type of program you may enjoy based on some vague, non-technical terminology I've invented.

2022 Try-It Days

 

We offer all kids the opportunity to explore the world of paddling thru a free 20min paddling experience. This is a great way to understand what a canoe or kayak can feel like and spark the pleasure of paddling. These programs are held at the Lake and at the Pool.

PS - Did you know that we received a myPG Community Grant from the City of PG to cover the cost of the pool rental and paddler insurance! And with the support of Engage Sport North, we can host more events and reach more families in PG!

 

2022 Local Youth Groups

 

Custom paddling sessions designed for local youth-based community groups looking to include an outdoor sport activity in their program. Groups up to 8 children, ages 7-18 years old, plus their leader(s) can come for one-time paddles or a multi-week sessions. 

 

  • Cost Based on Program type & available funding

  • No Prerequistes required, but basic swimming skills are encouraged

 

2022 Learn to Paddle

 

This 1 hour program is great for kids aged 7-18 years old who are new to paddling and are curious about how much fun it can be to spend the summer on the water. Paddlers learn water and boat safety skills and are introduced to basic paddle strokes in canoes & kayaks.

 

  • Cost $25 per paddler.

  • No Prerequisites required, but basic swimming skills are encouraged.

  • Usually a week-day evening in June & July, on weekends in August, or book by request (min 2 paddlers, max 8 paddlers)

2022 LEARN TO PADDLE CAMPS

 

Paddlers 7-12 years old looking to develop their basic paddling skills, learn some fun water games, explore the park, have some swim/beach time, play games and make crafts will enjoy this outdoor day camp at the lake.

 

Dates:

  • August 22nd 2022 - August 26th 2022 - One Week
    • 5 hours per day for 5 consecutive days. Mon-Fri 11am-4pm. Total 25 hours.
  • August 29th 2022 - September 2nd 2022 - One Week
    • 5 hours per day for 5 consecutive days. Mon-Fri 11am-4pm. Total 25 hours.

 

Requirements: Paddlers do not need to have experience paddling but need to be comfortable in the water and have some basic experience being in a boat/canoe/kayak/sup. Kids can always take a 1 hour Learn to Paddle program first.

 

  • Cost $175 per paddler. All equipment included.

  • Paddlers should have a basic knowledge of paddling and be comfortable swimming whilst wearing a lifejacket.

  • Before / After care add-on available.

 

 

2022 Fun ADVENTURE Paddle

 

Kids can sign up for a 1, 2 or 3 hour Paddle Sessions. This program incorporates games and activities to build on existing paddling skills and have fun exploring the shoreline (1hr) and across open water (2hr, 3hr). Kids will develop their confidence, and endurance in paddling canoes and kayaks.

 

  • Cost per paddler: $25 for 1 hour, $35 for 2 hours, and $45 for 3 hours. 

  • Paddlers should have a basic knowledge of paddling and be comfortable swimming whilst wearing a lifejacket.

  • Book this session by request - min. participants 2, max participants 8.

  • Looking for a Birthday Party Event?  We can run a 2 or 3 hour paddle session at West Lake and you can bring the cake!

 

2022 Learn-to-Train

 

Paddlers 7-16 years old looking to develop their basic paddling skills and add speed, strength and endurance, will enjoy this Learn to Train paddling program. All paddlers will learn to paddle canoes and kayaks. Paddlers will navigate their boats in open water, thru wake and enjoy games and paddling challenges. 

 

Commitment: 2 hours per day for 6 consecutive weeks. Saturday 4:00-6:00pm. Total 12 hours.

 

Dates: June 11 2022 -July 16 2022

 

Requirements: Paddlers do not need to have experience paddling our "banana" boats but should have basic Learn to Paddle Skills.

 

  • Cost $132 per paddler. All equipment included.

  • This program is for the recreational paddler, those interested in advancing to the Train-to-Train program, and those interested in racing in Regattas including the BC Summer Games 2024 in Maple Ridge

 

2022 BC Summer Games Camps (K1/C1/k2/C2/C4)

 

Paddlers born 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 who have never competed in the BC Summer Games in Canoe/Kayak and are interested in joining the Prince George 2022 Team will focus on the skills required to paddle K1/K2 kayaks and C1/C2/C4 canoes for entry into the BC Summer Games events. Paddlers will develop team paddle skills and be introduced to Canoe Polo.

 

Dates:

  • June 11 2022 - July 16 2022 - Saturdays
    • Commitment: 4 hours per day for 6 consecutive weeks. Saturday 11am-3pm. Total 24 hours.

 

  • Cost $175 per paddler. All equipment included.

 

2022 Train-to-Train (K1/C1/k2/C2/C4)

 

Commitment: 4 hours per day for 12 consecutive weeks. Sunday 11am-3pm. Total 48 hours.

 

Dates: TBD

 

Requirements: Paddlers are expected to be comfortable paddling our "banana" boats (or similar) and ready to transition to the next level boats (Tornado / Super Lancer), able to paddle continuously for 45 minutes, and paddle in all conditions.

 

Paddlers 12-16 years old looking to expand on their paddling skills, speed, strength and endurance will enjoy this Train to Train paddling program. All paddlers will further develop their skills in canoes and kayaks. Paddlers will navigate their boats in open water, thru wake and enjoy games and paddling challenges.

 

 

  • Cost $650 per paddler. All equipment included.

  • This program is for the recreational paddler, athletes looking to continue their sport development, and those interested in racing in Regattas including the BC Summer Games 2024 in Maple Ridge

 

2022 Family Paddle

 

Looking for a fun way to spend an evening at the lake? Come out for a 2 hour canoe paddling session which includes basic paddle stroke instruction and a guided tour around the shoreline and into open water to explore this beautiful lake. 

 

  • Cost $100 per Family (2 adults and 2 children)

  • Basic water and boat safety and paddling strokes will be covered.

  • Includes basic paddling insurance.

  • Not recommended for children/adults with no swimming or lifejacket experience.

2022 PARENTS CAN PADDLE

 

If your child is registered in a Learn to Train, BC Summer Games Camp, or Fun Paddle, then you too can paddle at West Lake using a PGCKC recreational canoe, recreational kayak or bring your own boat.

 

  • Cost $50 per adult paddler. Includes basic paddling insurance.

  • Valid for the entire season but only on the same day/time as your child's program

  • Limited Boat and Lifejacket availability - must be booked in advance of paddle day
