Below is a description of the programs available at the moment – more programs may be added as more volunteers provide their availability.


Registration for the programs is through RAMP. You will need an account to login, register yourself and then add family members (paddlers), and pay for the programs that have a cost.

Only programs that require Pre-Registration or have spaces available to register are listed in RAMP

2026 SPECIAL EVENTS

The following are special events for the Prince George Canoe & Kayak Club. (Alrighty – the snow is on the ground already – so that means we have not yet started our planning for 2026).

No previous paddling experience required – all skills levels welcome. Most ages are welcome so long as they are able to wear one of our lifejackets.

Participation in our events requires a Mandatory Paddling One-Time Insurance. At some events, the insurance is included or paid for thru a grant, at some events, a small insurance fee is required.

**All events include the use of a lifejacket and the gear required to paddle the equipment being made available (ie not all equipment is available at all locations and events)

2026 TRY-IT DAYS

We offer kids the opportunity to explore the world of paddling thru a free mini experience (usually around 30mins).

This is a great way to understand what a canoe and kayak can feel like and spark the pleasure of paddling.

These programs may be held at the Lake or Pool.

Prerequisite:

  • None but basic swimming skills are encouraged
  • Generally suitable for kids ages 5 and up
  • One Free Try-It per Child/Adult per Year
  • Parents/Guardians are required to stay and provide support to the volunteers which may include carrying lifejackets and paddles etc.

Most programs are run during the Evening due to volunteer availability but sometimes we can also run one on a weekend.

2026 MEMBERSHIP

All paddlers must be a Club Member – Club Membership covers the cost of the paddling insurance, and includes basic paddling instruction and the use of the paddling equipment.

2026 LEARN TO PADDLE LAKE

This 1 hour program introduces paddlers to a variety of boats as well as covering basic water and boat safety topics.

Suitable for new paddlers or those who have used a kayak or canoe a couple times but with no formal paddle stroke training.

These programs may be held at the Lake or Pool


Adults interested in a Learn to Paddle, Moving Water, or other technical paddling course should connect with Rick Brine from Backwater Paddling

  • Our kayaks may not accommodate all youths nor most adults due to the size of the cockpit, width of the seat and length of the boat. Details are generally noted in a program description or contact us for specifics.

2026 DISCOVER KAYAKING POOL (4 x 1 Hour PRACTICES)

Paddlers 6-12 years old looking to develop basic paddling skills and learn some fun water games can Learn to Paddle a Kayak in a Pool environment.

Pools allow paddlers to learn the skills they need before summer comes but are also great for kids who need to increase their confidence in a warm, controlled environment where concerns about water temperature, weeds in the lakes, waves and other new situations can impeed their ability to explore this sport and build the skills they need to be safe.

  • Cost $100 per paddler
    • (to offset pool rental fees and transportation of equipment from West Lake to the Pool and back again)

  • No previous paddling experience required.
  • Paddlers should be comfortable swimming whilst wearing a lifejacket.
  • Our kayaks may not accomodate all youths nor most adults due to the size of the cockpit, width of the seat and length of the boat. Details are generally noted in a program description or contact us for specifics.

  • Min 2 paddlers, Max 6 paddlers

2026 DISCOVER PADDLING LAKE (2 x 2 Hour PRACTICES)

Paddlers 6-12 years old looking to develop basic paddling skills and learn some fun water games can Learn to Paddle a Kayak and Canoe at the Lake.

Paddlers will learn the basic skills that will allow them to control the direction and speed of their watercraft. Additional skills include safely carrying their gear, how to handle a rescue situation (if the paddler falls into the water or the boat flips over), observing weather changes and water conditions, and learning to be confident moving about in a canoe.

  • No previous paddling experience required.

2026 FUN PADDLING LAKE (2 Hour Session)

Paddlers can enjoy a fun afternoon paddling in canoes and kayaks, playing games with their boats, testing our their paddling skills and learning a few more skills and water safety awareness.

Paddlers should have taken an Learn to Paddle or a Discover Paddling program or have previous experience paddling.

INFORMATION:

  • Cost $20 per paddler

  • All Equipment Included (Min Value $600 to equip a paddler)

Prerequisite:

  • Previous paddling experience required.
  • Paddlers should be comfortable swimming whilst wearing a lifejacket.
  • Our kayaks may not accomodate all youths nor most adults due to the size of the cockpit, width of the seat and length of the boat. Details are generally noted in a program description or contact us for specifics.

  • ** Can be booked as a private party for 4-8 paddlers

2026 BC SUMMER GAMES TRY-OUT and TRAINING

Paddlers who will be 13-16 in 2026 (Birth Years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) and interested in joining the Prince George Team to complete in the Kelowna BC Summer Games will focus on the technical skills required to paddle K1/K2 kayaks and C1/C2/C4 canoes, Canoe / Kayak Polo, flatwater slalom, surfski, and Stand Up Paddle (SUP).

INFORMATION:

  • BC Summer Games July 23-26th 2026 in Kelowna, BC
  • Paddlers will be transported by BC Games bus, will stay in BC Games accommodations and eat BC Games provided meals (as part of the Fee for BC Games)
  • There are two costs to compete in the BC Summer Games:
    • Fee for Training with PGCKC – Est. $100 per paddler
    • Fee for BC Games – To Be Determined by the BC Games Society (in the past between $300-$400 per paddler)
  • Where possible, parents/family are asked to support the club by volunteering at practices, at the games, or in another way that is helpful to the coaches and respects the parents/families skills and talents.
  • No Lifejacket or Paddling Gear Purchases Required
  • All Equipment Included (Min Value $1500 to equip a paddler)

Dates & Location:

TBD – 2026 – Choices may include a) Pool Sessions in May, b) weekly training at West Lake – June-July, c) weekend camp June & July at West Lake, d) one week camp July at West Lake.

2026 MEMBER DROP-IN

As a member, you are welcome to attend our Members Only Drop-in days and, for a small drop-in fee, use the Club Canoes and Kayaks at West Lake Provincial Park, during one of our Special Events, or during another program, based on boat availability .

  • No supervision or training provided by PGCKC Staff
  • There are no lifeguards at West Lake
  • Youth Members cannot paddle alone – must be with an Adult Member
  • Our canoes can accommodate most youths and adults
  • Our kayaks may not accommodate all youths nor most adults due to the size of the cockpit, width of the seat and length of the boat.
  • Club equipment cannot be used at another location unless hosted by PGCKC at that location.
